Interscholastic Sailing Association
Has Record Year
Interscholastic Sailing Association (ISSA) held its Annual Meeting just prior to the Cressy Singlehanded Championships, November 9 at the US Sailing Center-Long Beach.
The ISSA Board of Directors convened and celebrated a record year with 465 high schools registered for the 2011-2012 school year, a 30% growth in high school teams over 5 years. Tim Hogan, ISSA President commented “High School sailing is one of the largest growing factions of sailing in the United States. We’re proud to encourage and promote the sport of sailing through these student athletes and know they will all be life-long sailors through this experience.”
The ISSA Board undertook a re-vamp of the ISSA website and registration database which now is fully functioning and provides more access, information and cohesiveness. Matching District websites will come online shortly.
In addition to a new website, the social media aspect has also been expanded with increasing reach to sailors, fans and parents through various sites giving instant updates and expanded communication.
Awards were presented to key volunteers at ISSA: the Jeff Springer Award for service was presented to Mike Segerblom, Newport Beach, CA for his dedication to ISSA and who ran an excellent Cressy Championship following the meeting. The President’s Award was conferred upon JP Fasano, Briarcliff Manor, NY, and Bill Schneider, Annapolis, MD who both dedicated many years to ISSA and retired from the Board.
